8 Day South Luangwa National Park Bush Experience

This safari begins with 2 nights in a private lodge followed by 3 nights in a bush camp on the Luangwa River within South Luangwa National Park and finishes with a further 2 nights at the private lodge. The 8 day safari includes a range of game viewing activities including guided game drives, night game drives and walking safaris.

For scenery, variety of animals and accessibility South Luangwa National Park is considered the best park in Zambia and one the most majestic in Africa. Impalas, pukus and buffaloes roam the wide open plains; leopards of which there are many hunt in the dense woodlands; herds of elephants wade through the marshes; and hippos munch serenely on the nile cabbage in the Luangwa River. The bird life is also tremendous with about 400 species being recorded.

Kafunta River Lodge is set in a prime wilderness area in the riverside forest on the banks of the Luangwa River overlooking the South Luangwa National Park. The accommodation in 10 chalets is of the highest quality in the valley. This classic safari lodge offers all creature comforts in a wildlife environment. The package includes daily game drives, night drives and walking safaris in the National Park.

Island Bush Camp is a small, personalised camp located under a grove of mahogany trees on the Luangwa River. This bush camp offers accommodation in raised chalets with open views of the river. The bush camp is in a very remote game rich area of the southern section of South Luangwa National Park and is the perfect base to enjoy all South Luangwa National Park has to offer.

Itinerary

Day 1
On arrival at Mfuwe airport you will be met by your hosts from Kafunta River Lodge and transferred to the lodge. On arrival at your lodge you may want to undertake a night game drive or relax at your lodge enjoying a bush boma under the stars.

Day 2
A full day to enjoy all South Luangwa National Park has to offer as you have the option of game drives with experienced guides through the park or walking safaris with experienced guides through this wildlife rich National Park.

Day 3 - 5
This morning after an early morning game drive you will be transferred to Mfuwe airport for your return flight to Lusaka and onwards destination.

Day 6
This morning after breakfast you will be transferred by open vehicle through South Luangwa National Park to your remote and intimate bush camp located on the Luangwa River. You have 3 days in this remote section of the park that is only accessible during the dry season.

Day 7
Another full day to enjoy all South Luangwa National Park has to offer as you have the option of game drives with experienced guides through the park or walking safaris with experienced guides through this wildlife rich National Park.

Day 8
This morning after an early morning game drive you will be transferred to Mfuwe airport for your return flight to Lusaka and onwards destination.

Accommodations

Kafunta River Lodge
Kafunta River Lodge is set in the riverside forest on the banks of the Luangwa River overlooking the South Luangwa National Park, Zambia. This classic safari lodge offers guests all the comforts, while being situated in unspoilt wilderness. With 8 private chalets and 2 luxury suites there is something for all discerning guests.

Central to the lodge is the spacious bar and dining area. Built around a semi-evergreen wild mango tree and thatched in the traditional style, the lodge offers superb panoramic views over the Luangwa River and the South Luangwa National Park, Zambia. Great game viewing and bird watching from the lodge is guaranteed.

Adjacent to the bar is the pool and the only natural hot spring tub in the Luangwa Valley. This unique hot tub is fed from a source on Kafunta's grounds, offering a constant temperature of 38 degrees. Here you can enjoy pure relaxation while at the same being presented with magnificent views over the flood plains and the Luangwa River.

Kafunta River Lodge has its own pontoon 5 minutes from the lodge, the adventurous crossing takes you into the more remote areas of the park - an alternative to the main gate 10 km (game driving) North of the lodge.

Kafunta River Lodge is open 12 months of the year.

Island Bush Camp
This small, personalised camp lies under a grove of Mahogany trees on the banks of the Luangwa River, Zambia. The Island Bush Camp offers rustic accommodation in grass/reed huts, with the modern comforts of hot showers and running water. Each chalet has a private verandah overlooking the Luangwa River.
The Island Bush Camp is 2 hours drive south of Kafunta River Lodge in a very remote game-rich area of the southern section of the South Luangwa National Park, Zambia.

Far from the more well beaten tracks Island Bush camp offers complete solitude and the chance to explore the bush on small and exclusive walking safaris in the woodland and open plains that exist in this area. Guided by some of the Valleys very best guides and escorted by armed official wildlife scout ensuring your safety and giving you an exciting and educational view of the bush at ground level where the sights and sounds heighten your senses.
Although the main activity at Island Bush camp is walking safaris, the camp also use a safari vehicle to get into a variety of walking areas or return from a walk after dark to discover some of the nocturnal wildlife in the area.

Travel insurance is highly recommended for the South Luangwa National Park to cover for irrecoverable prepaid travel costs incurred as a result of unforeseen circumstances. For example, if the passenger becomes unexpectedly ill and is unable to travel then the passenger will be able to recover the total costs of their South Luangwa National Park package.
