9 Day Garden Route & Kruger National Park Highlights Tour

This package includes a 4 day guided tour along the picturesque garden route between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth followed by 3 days in the world famous Kruger National Park.

The Garden Route is one the highlights of any trip to South Africa with the range of topography, vegetation, wildlife and outdoor activities second to none and a truly breathtaking experience. Your guided tour by luxury coach will travel along Route 62 via Montagu and the Klein Karoo to Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of the world. Here you will tour the vast limestone Cango Caves and visit one of the large ostrich farms before travelling to the quaint coastal city of Knysna. You will spend a day touring this beautiful region including a lagoon cruise to Featherbed Nature Reserve, a trailer ride to the top of Western Head and picturesque walk back through the milkwood trees. From Knysna you will travel through Tsitsikamma Forests and its spectacular road passes to the lovely coastal city of Port Elizabeth where you will spend a night before travelling to Johannesburg.

Kruger National Park is one of the world's most famed protected areas, known for its size, history of conversation, diversity of wildlife and ease of access. It's a place where the drama of life and death is played out on a daily basis. Your tour includes 4 x open vehicle guided game drives in the park as well as a guided tour through the spectacular Blyde River Canyon a must see for any visitor to this region.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Cape Town to Oudtshoorn 
This morning you will be collected from your hotel and you will commence your guided tour of the scenic Garden Route. You will travel on Route 62 through the picturesque town of Montagu with its art deco architecture and fine national monuments through the Little Karoo to Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of the world, where you will spend the night. Dinner is included in your tour tonight.

Day 2 - Oudtshoorn
This morning after breakfast you will be taken for a tour of the limestone Cango Caves. Named after the Khoesaan word for ‘a wet place' the Cango Caves are located 30km's from Oudtshoorn and are one of the major tourist attractions of the region. From the caves you will travel to one of the large ostrich farms in the area where you will be taken on a guided tour.

Day 3 - Oudtshoorn to Knysna
This morning after a leisurely breakfast you will depart for George, travelling via the Outeniqua Pass with an opportunity for a photo stop at the top of the pass. On arrival in George you will be taken on a guided tour of the town before departing for Victoria Bay, a beautiful cove enclosed by cliffs. We will then travel to Wilderness, an attractive holiday resort with lovely long white beaches. After lunch you will travel to Knysna where the remainder of the afternoon is at leisure.

Day 4 - Knysna
Located on the edge of a serene lagoon and surrounded by forests, Knysna is the perfect placed to spend two nights to take in the beauty of this region. This morning after a leisurely start you will embark on a lagoon cruise to Featherbed Nature Reserve where you will be taken in 4x4's through the reserve for lunch and leisurely walks through forest. After lunch you will cruise back through the lagoon and have the afternoon at leisure.

Day 5 - Knysna to Tsitsikamma
This morning you will leave from Knysna and travel eastward to Plettenberg Bay and then on to Bloukrans Bridge. You will then travel to Tsitsikamma National Park which lies at the foot of the Tsitsikamma Range and is cut by rivers that have carved ravines into the ancient forest. The flora varies from huge stinkwood and yellowwood trees to ferns, lilies and proteas making it a spectacular area to walk through. You will spend the night on the edge of this lovely old growth forest in Storms River Mouth.

Day 6 - Tsitsikamma to Johannesburg
This morning you will travel to Port Elizabeth for a orientation tour before transferring to the airport for your flight to Johannesburg for your nights stay.

Day 7 - Johannesburg to Kruger National Park
You will be collected from Johannesburg and will travel through some of the most spectacular scenery South Africa has to offer as you move from the Highveld of Gauteng Province to the Lowveld regions of Mpumalanga Province. You will travel through Nelspruit, White River and Hazyview before entering the world famous Kruger National Park and spend the afternoon looking for the Big Five.  This park has more recorded species of wildlife than any other African game reserve. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon with the smells of traditional South African cuisine filling the air.

Day 8 - Kruger National Park
Enjoy breakfast before you enter the Park for a full day of game viewing activity.  Your guide will endeavour to spoil you with sightings of the "Big Five", general game and prolific bird life.  Stop at one of the rest camps for lunch (not included).  Spend the rest of the afternoon in the park. 

Day 9 - Kruger National Park to Johannesburg
Spend your last morning at leisure before you start your journey to Johannesburg via Graskop where we will have a lunch stop (not included), over Kowyn Pass to the small town of Pilgrimsrest.  Pass through Lydenburg, Dullstroom and Belfast.  Arrive in Johannesburg in the early evening at approximately 18h30.

This tour gives you a good overview of South Africa as it takes in two of its major attractions, the Garden Route and Kruger National Park. As the tour departs Cape Town you have the option of spending some time in this wonderful city prior to the commencement of the tour. At the completion of the tour you may wish to travel by road to Sun City and Pilanesberg National Park, only 2 hours drive from Johannesburg. You may also want to travel further north into Botswana, Zambia or Namibia to experience other regions of southern Africa. Or you may wish to relax on a beach in Mozambique before heading home.

For example, if the passenger becomes unexpectedly ill and is unable to travel then the passenger will be able to recover the total costs of their 9 Day Garden Route & Kruger National Park Highlights Tour package.
