Maputo and Inhaca Island 

This package consists of 2 nights in one of Africa’s most attractive capitals, Maputo followed by 4 nights on the relaxing Inhaca Island with its coral reefs and smooth turquoise waters.

With its Mediterranean-style architecture, wide avenues lined with jacaranda and flame trees and waterside setting, Maputo is easily one of Africa’s most attractive capitals. Maputo is a lively, bustling place with an abundance of sidewalk cafes and cultural offerings and great nightlife.

The island of Inhaca is located 40km east of Maputo, a short 20 minute flight, and its tropical vegetation, coral reefs and delightful beaches provide a popular weekend getaway for the city dwellers of Maputo. A host of watersports and other activities can be undertaken from your resort such as snorkeling, diving, water skiing, sailing, hiking, boat tours to Portuguese Island Beach and Santa Maria Beach and whale watching.

Itinerary

Day 1
On arrival at Maputo airport you will be met and transferred to Pestana Rovuma Maputo Hotel for your 2 night stay. The hotel is located in the heart of Maputo and is ideally located to explore this beautiful city.

Day 2
This morning you will be collected from your hotel and taken on a fully guided tour of the city taking in its beautiful colonial buildings, lively multicultural atmosphere and learn about its history from pre colonial times through its protracted and bloody civil war to the peace of today. At the completion of the tour you will be dropped back at your hotel.

Day 3
This morning you will be collected from your hotel and transferred to Maputo airport for your 20 minute flight to Inhaca Island and your accommodation for your next 4 nights, Pestana Inhaca Lodge. Your resort lodge is the perfect place to relax by the salt water swimming pool or undertake the many water sports and other tours and activities on the island.

Day 4-6
Your days on the island can be as active or relaxing as you like. There are daily boat cruises to both Portuguese Island, with its pristine white sand beaches and crystal clear waters, and Cabo Santa Maria, with its secluded beaches and brilliant snorkeling conditions. There is also very good snorkeling at Coral Gardens Reef and opportunities to water ski, sail, scuba dive, canoe or fish in the calm waters of the island. You can also take in a stunning sunset cruise and enjoy a whale watching cruise.

Day 7
This morning you will check out of your hotel and be transferred to the island airstrip for your short flight to Maputo and connecting flight to your next destination.

Accommodations

Pestana Rovuma Maputo Hotel

Pestana Rovuma Hotel is a modern comfortable hotel located in the heart of Maputo, in front of the Old Cathedral. The hotel has 120 rooms and all rooms are equipped with air conditioning, satellite TV, direct dial telephone, safety deposit box, private bathroom and hairdryer.

The main restaurant is “monomotapa”, named after a royal warrior from the Gaza province and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner serving buffet meals and a la Carte service. The cocktail bar on the 2nd floor is the Saseka, which is the Mozambican word for kindness. The hotel also has a swimming pool, fitness room, steam room and business centre.

Pestana Inhaca Lodge

This picturesque resort offers a total of 40 rooms and all rooms are equipped with air conditioning and ceiling fans, television with DSTV, tea and coffee making facilities, mosquito nets and ensuite bathrooms with showers. All rooms are set amongst magnificent coconut palms and tropical gardens.

The resort has a large salt water swimming pool, main restaurant with meals also served outside on the terrace around the pool, cocktail bar, table tennis and pool table, internet facilities and laundry service.

The resort offers complimentary non motorized water sports (wind surfing, canoeing & paddling) and the use of scuba diving and snorkeling equipment. Other activities include water skiing, cobra-cat, sailing trips, fishing, walking trials/tours, jeep tours to the lighthouse and Marine Biology Museum and boat tours to Portuguese Island and Santa Maria.

Other recommendations

This package is ideal as a nice finish to your travels through Africa as you can experience the culture and vibrancy of Mozambique’s capital before relaxing on Inhaca Island. Maputo is a 4 to 5 hour drive from Kruger National park and is a natural extension to this package. Transfers between Kruger and Maputo can be arranged at an additional cost of $250 per person based on a minimum of 2 people travelling.

Travel insurance is highly recommended for the 'Maputo & Inhaca Island - Mozambique Accommodation' to cover for irrecoverable prepaid travel costs incurred as a result of unforeseen circumstances. For example, if the passenger becomes unexpectedly ill and is unable to travel then the passenger will be able to recover the total costs of their Maputo & Inhaca Island - Mozambique Accommodation package.

Please note every year Wild Africa Travel Company have passengers needing to cancel for many unforeseen reasons. Unfortunately Wild Africa Travel Company is helpless if the passenger has not taken out the appropriate travel insurance.
