Mashatu Private Game Reserve

This package includes 4 nights in either the tented camp or main camp of Mashatu Private Game Reserve in the eastern corner of Botswana. The main attraction of Mashatu is the range of activities on offer which includes guided open vehicle day and night game drives, guided walking safaris, mountain bike safaris, horse safaris, specialized hiking trails, ivory drives, predator drives and archaeological site visits.

Mashatu is the largest private game reserve in Africa and is home to large herds of elephant, prides of lion and cheetah. Along the river courses, huge mashatu trees provide shade for eland, impala, wildebeest, giraffe and zebra, whilst at night, the bat-eared fox, african wildcat and the magnificent leopard search for prey. Mashatu Game Reserve proudly provides a refuge for the largest, single population of elephant on privately owned land in Africa. Known as the relic herds of Shashe, these elephants are the last living testament to the great herds that once populated the meandering Limpopo valley. Today, the population on Mashatu Game Reserve alone is estimated to number in excess of 500.

At Mashatu you will have the choice of a luxurious suite at the beautifully designed and very comfortable main lodge with its extensive list of guest amenities or the more secluded and rustic tented camp.

Itinerary

Day 1
You will board your South African Airways flight from Johannesburg to Polokwane Airport and connecting charter flight to Limpopo Valley Airfield in Botswana. On arrival you will be met and transferred the short distance to your lodge where you may want to undertake a late afternoon/evening game drive or relax at your lodge enjoying a bush boma under the stars.

Day 2-4
Your days can be as adventurous or as relaxing as you wish as you have the option of game drives with experienced guides through the park or walking safaris with experienced guides through this wildlife rich game park. You may also want to get more adventurous and partake in the number of other adventurous activities the lodge has on offer including mountain bike safaris, horseback safaris, Ivory drives or the Predator drive. You can also relax and wile away your time in the comforts of your lodge with its reading room, safari deck, bar, restaurant and swimming pool.

Day 5
This morning after an early morning game drive you will be transferred to Limpopo Valley Airfield for your flight to your Johannesburg.

Accommodations 

Mashatu Tented Camp

Nestled in the remote northern area of the reserve lies Mashatu Tent Camp. With never more than sixteen guests, this idyllic getaway provides accommodation in the form of eight twin tents. Although rustic in character every facility is provided. The tents are insect-proofed, have comfortable beds and each has an en-suite shower and W.C. facility. There is an open sided thatch deck where meals are served and a traditional boma for intimate camp¬fire dinners and a safari bar featuring a full selection of beverages. This camp also contains a very welcome plunge pool. Your total comfort is the priority of your hosts. While on game drives, you will be taken care of by your ranger and on your return, the camp staff will gladly attend to your every need.

Mashatu Main Camp

Mashatu Main Camp is the larger and more luxurious of Mashatu's camps and offers 14 tastefully and authentically decorated suites. Each suite is furnished with either two three-quarter beds and a day bed, or two double beds and a day bed, expansive en suite bathroom with shower, bath, his and hers basins, and a second W.C.

A private lounge area overlooks the unfenced surrounding bush and 24 hour temperature control completes the comfort of each suite. Mashatu Main Camp is elevated around a waterhole and offers excellent game viewing opportunities from within the camp itself. The dining area, stunning day lounge and "Gin Trap" bar provide diverse lookouts from which to enjoy and appreciate the environment. Facilities within the camp include a swimming pool, an air-conditioned lounge and dining room and a lala-palm enclosed African boma, in which sumptuous dinners are savoured under the magnificent African night sky and around a blazing fire. A well appointed curio shop complements the facilities.

The "piece de resistance" at Main Camp is the Discovery Room: base for the scientific research conducted at Mashatu and a magnifying glass though which the animals and history of Mashatu can be examined. A fascinating insight into the world that is Mashatu - the Land of the Giants.

Travel insurance is highly recommended on the Mashatu Private Game Reserve to cover for irrecoverable prepaid travel costs incurred as a result of unforeseen circumstances. For example, if the passenger becomes unexpectedly ill and is unable to travel then the passenger will be able to recover the total costs of their Mashatu Private Game Reserve package.

Please note every year Wild Africa Travel Company have passengers needing to cancel for many unforeseen reasons. Unfortunately Wild Africa Travel Company is helpless if the passenger has not taken out the appropriate travel insurance.
