This package includes 1 night in Namibia's German influenced capital, Windhoek, followed by a 3 day tour of the red dunes of Sossusvlei, Namibia's number one tourist attraction.
Windhoek has only existed for just over a century with its name being corrupted from the original ‘Winterhoek' during German colonial occupation which lasted until the early 20th century. The city is the country's commercial hub and set in the crisp hills of the central highlands its historical architecture makes it a very attractive place.
Despite being Namibia's number one tourist attraction, Sossusvlei still manages to feel isolated. The dunes, which reach as high as 325m are part of one of the oldest and driest ecosystems on earth, and are forever changing with the wind altering the shape of the dunes and colours shifting with the changing light.

Itinerary
Day 1
On arrival at Windhoek airport you will be met by your Wild Africa Travel Company representative and transferred to your Windhoek hotel where you will check into your hotel room for your 1 night stay.
Day 2
This morning you can relax in your hotel or explore the city of Windhoek before you are collected from your hotel in the early afternoon for your guided 3 day tour to Sossusvlei. You will travel via the scenic Spreetshoogte Pass and Solitaire before arriving at your comfortable lodge bordering the remote and beautiful Namib Desert. In the early evening you will join your other travellers for dinner under the desert stars.
Day 3
An early morning departure as you join the guided tour to Sossusvlei in a 4 x 4 overland vehicle. You will arrive at Sesriem, the Park’s gate, at around sunrise. Enjoy this unique desert scenery with some of the highest dunes in the world. The dynamic and star-shaped dunes are ideal for the keen photographer and you have the opportunity to climb one of the over 300 m high dunes leaving you overwhelmed with the view. A full breakfast is served under shady camelthorn trees before visiting the Sesriem Canyon and returning to the Lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon you can relax by the pool before a late afternoon transfer to the “marble mountain” where you will enjoy a drink watching a spectacular sunset and the star lit clear skies of the desert before returning to the lodge for dinner.
Day 4
After breakfast you will check out of your lodge and will be transferred to Windhoek and the completion of your tour.
Accommodations
Kalahari Sands Hotel Windhoek The Kalahari Sands Hotel and Casino has a total of 173 rooms which are decorated to blend into their earthy surroundings. The colour scheme is taken from the golden hues of the dunes and combined with the reddish tones of the bushman paintings.
The rooms include air conditioning and heating, colour TV, video channel, radio, telephone, bath, shower, electric shaver plug (220 volts AC, 50 cycles), hairdryers, refrigerator, coffee making facilities, room service is available 24 hours per day, safety deposit boxes and mini bars.
The Dunes is an informal restaurant offering a daily buffet and carvery on Sundays. The choices are sublime and only the freshest ingredients are used. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Excellent yet informal selection of the A la carte menu is available. A section of the restaurant has been reserved for non-smokers. The terrace shaded by an awning, overlooks Independence Av.
The Oasis Bar is situated opposite the hotel reception, and is an ideal place for a cooling sundowner or rendezvous spot for hotel residents and the downtown Windhoek business community alike. The ambiance is warm and welcoming and our resident pianist is guaranteed to help you unwind.
Namib Naukluft Lodge
The best spot to experience the living desert is on our 13,000 ha farm, which was pronounced as a private nature reserve in 1999 and hosts the upmarket Namib Naukluft Lodge. Stunning sceneries invite you to nature drives and walks. Enjoy your stay in unexpected comfort and friendly hospitality. Enjoy the ever-changing pastel colours of the beautiful Pro-Namib. Use the morning hours for an easy climb to the top of one of the adjacent granite hills or a walk in the vicinity. Explore the diverse flora and fauna, where the trees grow seemingly out of the stones.
Relax at the crystal clear swimming pool during the heat of the day. In the late afternoon you may join a ‘sundowner’ – drive to the natural marble mountains on the farm. Listen to the evening sound of the barking gecko – a concert never to be forgotten. The clear night sky invites you to an unreal stargazing experience. Try to spot the Milky Way and the Southern Cross! We’ll show you the oldest desert on earth. Our friendly staff will make your stay unforgettable.
Namib Naukluft Lodge offers 16 tastefully furnished rooms with en-suite facilities and a private, spacious patio with a striking view. Excellent traditional meals are served in the restaurant, on the adjacent verandah or in the boma from the open fire. The lounge and pool area offer a relaxed atmosphere after an active day in the desert.
Other Recommendations
This package takes you to one of the true highlights of southern Africa and is a perfect add on to your other travel plans through the region. You may also wish to add further travel through Namibia such as the extreme sports capital of Swakopmund, or hiking through Fish River Canyon or get off the beaten track along the Skeleton Coast or relax in a private lodge with great game viewing in Etosha National Park.

Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is highly recommended for the Sossusvlei Guided Tour to cover for irrecoverable prepaid travel costs incurred as a result of unforeseen circumstances. For example, if the passenger becomes unexpectedly ill and is unable to travel then the passenger will be able to recover the total costs of their Sossusvlei Guided Tour package.
Please note every year Wild Africa Travel Company have passengers needing to cancel for many unforeseen reasons. Unfortunately Wild Africa Travel Company is helpless if the passenger has not taken out the appropriate travel insurance.
Travel Insurance is also very important for passengers on their travels as there can be situations where things may go wrong and travellers find themselves needing urgent medical assistance, help with replacing lost luggage, or assistance in making an urgent trip home. Travel insurance can provide coverage for these unforeseen circumstances and also provide peace of mind for the traveller.
