It has been reported that between January & April this year 171 rhinos have been poached & killed in South Africa. The report conducted by South Africa’s Department of Environmental Affairs shows Kruger National Park is the main target for poachers with 103 rhinos killed. The other main areas in South Africa targeted are Limpopo, KwaZulu Natal & North West Province with a combined total of 58 rhino’s killed during this period.

“The department wishes to once again urge South Africans to report incidents of rhino poaching or any tip-offs that could lead to arrest and prevention of illegal killing to 0800 205 005,” said Department of Environmental Affairs spokesman, Albi Modise.
