The Okavango Delta is a natural phenomena where the 1430km Okavango River rises in central Angola, then flows south east through Namibia and into Botswana. Here 18.5 million cubic metres of water annually spreads like an open hand across the flat landscape, eventually losing itself in 16,000 sq km maze of lagoons, channels and islands. In this desert country the mass of water attracts an abundance of bird and other wildlife and is one of the major natural attractions of Africa. Your lodge will provide the perfect sanctuary after your game viewing activities including guided walking safaris and mokoro (dug out canoes) excursions.

Day 5 – Okavango to Maun
An early morning guided walk or mokoro excursion can be undertaken before a hearty bush breakfast. You will then say farewell to your guide and the people you have met at the lodge and return back to Maun on the 20 minute light aircraft flight.
Oddballs Camp
Oddballs’ is situated on the edge of Chief’s Island, deep in the heart of the Okavango Delta. The camp is accessible by light aircraft only. On arrival you will be met at the airstrip and welcomed to the island. Accommodation is in dome tents, fully equipped, and set on elevated wooden decks shaded by reed shelters. Each tent boasts a beautiful rustic bathroom, consisting of basin, toilet and shower.
The bar and lounge areas have comfortable seating, and a raised viewing deck overlooks the sweep of the delta – the perfect place to watch the sun set over the palms, and view whatever wildlife may be visiting. Meals are simple, yet wholesome and enjoyed in the main complex.
Activities are conducted by your own professional guide (a maximum of two guests per guide), a man of the swamp, born and bred. He has a mokoro (dug-out canoe) in which he will take you to nearby islands, where you will walk to view game and the spectacular landscape that is the Okavango. It might also be possible to visit his village, meet the elders and perhaps his family.
Oddballs’ caters for the young and young at heart and undoubtedly represents the best value for money in the Okavango Delta. A relaxed camp with a great reputation.
Oddballs Enclave
The Enclave is on a small island just off the south-western edge of Chiefʼs Island, deep in the heart of the Okavango, and bordering Moremi Game Reserve. The camp is accessible only by light aircraft. On arrival, guests will be welcomed to the island by their private guide, who will remain their guide for the duration of their stay.
The Enclave experience is an intimate one. The camp is a small, comfortably appointed place. Oddballs’ Enclave can accommodate a maximum of 10 guests, in five twin or double bedded mini-Meru tents, making it a classic and intimate camp. The tents are on elevated wooden decks, each with a semi-detached private bathroom with an al fresco bucket shower, and hot and cold running water. The Enclave is the perfect destination for a small group or family to spend time together.
The guest areas have a variety of comfortable seating arrangements and a raised viewing deck overlooks the sweep of the Delta – the perfect place to watch the sun or moon rise and view whatever wildlife may be visiting. The molapo that extends beyond the camp is, depending on the time of year, covered with water or entirely dry. Either way it is often filled with breeding herds of elephant, buffalo or a small family of kudu that is local to the island. Meals are enjoyed on the deck with spectacular views across the floodplains to the distant island forests.
Delta Camp
Scattered in the forest of a beautiful island deep in the Okavango Delta, Delta Camp’s chalets are designed to take advantage of the many indigenous trees of the island forest. Each chalet fits unobtrusively into its setting, blending in to the surrounding bush and with views over the flood-plains. Hammocks complete the picture of simple luxury in the wilderness.
Born and raised in the Okavango, Delta Camp’s guides are the essence of the place. Using hand-made dug-out canoes, armed with a lifetime’s experience and eyes like a hawk, one of our guides will accompany you on all your excursions. The experience is cultural as well, and spending time in the company of a man who has lived his life in this wild place, and perhaps visiting his home, is a revelation to many.
Game of all sorts abounds: lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, hippopotamus, crocodile, giraffe, all manner of antelope including the rare lechwe, tsessebe and sitatunga, otters, honey-badgers, and a variety of the smaller wild cats are amongst the many mammal species you may see. Well over 450 species of birds bring the Okavango to life, and bird-song heralds each dawn.
Overlooking the confluence of two channels, Delta Camp’s lounge and dining area is elevated to command the spectacular vista of swamp and riverine forest that lies before it. A variety of game can usually be seen from the deck, with elephant frequent visitors, and cavorting hippo and basking crocodile common sights. Excellent meals ensure that guests are well prepared for their walks; tea and coffee are available at all times, and the open bar is on hand to wet your whistle, whether dried by the African sun or a close encounter with exciting game.
Instead of flying back to Maun you can fly from the Okavango Delta to Kasane on the outskirts of Chobe National Park (approx 50 minutes) and add on a Chobe National Park package. There is then the opprtunity to include Victoria Falls which is located 1 hours drive from Chobe National Park.
