Mountain Gorillas
The 3 Day Rwanda Gorilla Trek to Parc National des Volcanoes is home to around 300 mountain gorillas which are located in the north of Rwanda. The Volcanoes National Park comprises of ten habituated gorilla families. There are a total of 64 gorilla permits available each day with a maximum of eight trekkers visiting any one group.

Other packages to Rwanda are available and fully customisable option where you are able to add or deduct nights as well as activities.

Day 1 – Kigali – Volcanoes National Park

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by a representative outside the airport arrivals (morning or early afternoon arrival preferable). Depart on a scenic drive northwestwards, through the beautiful terraced hillsides that display Rwanda’s landscape. (Approximately 2-3 hour drive)

Arrive at Ruhengeri, the base for Gorilla trekking at the Parc National des Volcans. The town itself is located only 25 km from the Uganda border, and has great views of the surrounding volcanoes. People are very friendly here and although a former Belgian colony (and thus French-speaking), many people speak English.

Day 2 – Gorillas! – Volcanoes National Park – Kigali

In the morning, after an early breakfast, you will be driven to the park headquarters (situated 15 minutes from the lodge), for registration, where the park staff determines which group of gorillas you will visit. After you have been put into a group, the Lead Guide will brief you on the trekking procedures, after which you will return to your vehicle for the drive up the mountain to the starting point. Trekking can take from two to six or more hours, depending on the movement of the gorillas. You are allowed a maximum of one hour with the Gorillas.

Return to the lodge for lunch, after which you will depart on the scenic drive south, past coffee and banana plantations, to Kigali.

Mountain Gorilla View Lodge
Mountain Gorilla View Lodge is located in Musanze district northern Rwanda neighboring Volcanoes National Park. The lodge is located on the foothills of the Mount Sabinyo, a volcanic mountains that make up the Virunga ranges. The lodge is about 15 minutes from the main entrance to Rwanda’s Park National des Volcans.
Mountain Gorilla View Lodge is an ecolodge with 30 spacious cottages. The cottages are made of stone and thatch. All cottage comes with a living area with a fireplace, en-suite facilities and a private veranda.
The main lodge area has a restaurant serving home cooked food and a bar.

Accommodation: For this accommodated safari, we make use of mid-range lodge accommodation with en-suite facilities. Your accommodation is situated in the Volcanoes National Park. The property is equipped with a bar and restaurant area.


Meals: As stated in the itinerary. Please advise us of any special dietary requirements in advance.


Spending Money: Clients are advised to bring enough money to cover the purchase of curios, tips for the guide and additional entertainment. US Dollars (small denominations) and local currency the Rwandan Franc are best the most practical and convenient currencies.


Travelling Times and Distances: All travelling times are affected by road conditions, border crossings, detours and weather conditions, therefore on certain days travelling times may be longer than anticipated especially where there is a lot of distance to be covered. Please keep in mind that the time it takes to travel 100 km in your home country is not equivalent to the time it takes to travel 100 km on African roads, therefore we encourage you to sit back and enjoy the spectacular scenery Africa has to offer. Where possible additional stops will be made to ensure your travelling comfort at all times.


First Aid: Our guides are trained in basic first aid and the vehicle is equipped with a medical aid kit. Preventative Malaria medication should be taken before the trip and throughout its duration and it is advisable to consult a doctor prior to departure. Yellow Fever vaccinations are compulsory, and your yellow fever certificate should be presented on arrival – please contact your Travel Clinic before departure.


Luggage: Maximum baggage allowance: 12 kg. Wild Africa Travel Company stipulates this luggage allowance, as an overloaded vehicle is a danger to both the clients and the guide. This does not include photographic equipment and a small daypack. Please bring soft-sided luggage (e.g. a backpack or soft barrel bag), not a suitcase. Don’t bring too much clothing, as there are washing opportunities along the way. Please adhere to the allowance specified as space for luggage is limited.


Insurance: It is compulsory for all travellers to have insurance covering their personal requirements, medical expenses and personal possessions. This is to be arranged before leaving your home country. Our ground operator has comprehensive public liability insurance.
