3 Day Amboseli NP Safari Tour

This Amboseli safari includes 2 nights camping or in a safari lodge at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro with a game drives in Amboseli National Park.

Amboseli National Park has historically supported both wildlife and the cattle the Maasai people own & herd. Due to the large amount of water that is fed from Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s greatest mountain, the apparently dry Amboseli which was Kenya’s first game sanctuary, is able to support its abundant wildlife.

The grasslands in the park are lush & inviting to the wildlife when made green by the rains and the park also contains three major swamps. The swamps in the east part of the park attract wildebeest, zebra and antelope which in turn attract the predators, and large lion prides can be viewed here. In the south, the swamp attracts hippos, buffalo, buck and is teeming with bird life. Giraffe are also found here and in the wooded areas are leopard and cheetah. In the west of the park lies Lake Amboseli, a seasonal soda lake, sometimes teaming with flamingos. An Amboseli National Park safari is a favourite of many visitors to Kenya with spectacular scenery and excellent wildlife viewings.

Elephants Kilimanjaro

Day 1 – Nairobi to Amboseli National Park
The safari begins! Depart in the morning and drive straight to Amboseli National Park nestled at the foothills of Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. Amboseli is a top destination in Kenya for wildlife. Indeed, one of the classic images of East Africa is that of a herd of elephant strolling across the plains with the snow-capped peak of Kilimanjaro in the background. It is to catch this sight that people flood to Amboseli National Park. While Kilimanjaro is actually across the border in Tanzania, Amboseli has a perfect view of the world’s tallest freestanding mountain, rising an impressive 5895 metres above the plains. (Lunch & dinner)
Overnight  Camp: Kimana Camp or similar
Overnight  Permanent Tented Camp: Kibo Camp or similar
Overnight Lodge: Amboseli Sopa Lodge or similar

Day 2 – Amboseli National Park
A day of game driving in the park, which contains swamp grounds in which elephants and hippos are in abundance. You can also see a variety of plains game, antelopes and birds. (Breakfast, lunch & dinner)

Overnight  Permanent Tented Camp: Kibo Camp or similar
Overnight Lodge: Amboseli Sopa Lodge or similar

Day 3 – Amboseli National Park to Nairobi
The best time to view the majestic mountain is at dawn, when the clouds lift and the light is clear and soft. Take an early morning game drive to see this spectacle. Enjoy breakfast before departing to Nairobi. (Breakfast & lunch)

Amboseli Sopa Lodge ★★★
Set in 200 acres of private land, and with a rustic charm all of its own, the lodge nestles in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro which, at almost six thousand metres, is Africa’s highest and most famous snowcapped mountain. It was this region of Kenya that, in the 1930’s, inspired Ernest Hemingway’s unforgettable stories ‘The Snows of Kilimanjaro’ and ‘The Short, Happy Life of Francis Macomber’ which were turned into more than successful feature lms in the late 1940’s due to their renowned actors. All forms of wildlife still abound in this wilderness which continues all the way to the Amboseli National Park, an easy twenty minute drive away from the lodge. While the park conserves over six hundred breeding species of birds, this is also home to the Maasai people, perhaps the world’s most renowned African tribe.
