This 13 day escorted South Africa tour takes you east and south from Johannesburg all the way to Cape Town providing a memorable South Africa travel experience as it takes in some of the best natural attractions the country has to offer.

You will depart the highveld from Johannesburg and travel through some spectacular countryside to the lowveld and one of the most famous wildlife reserves on the planet, Kruger National Park. You will spend a full day in the park taking in the flora and fauna of one of the premier wilderness reserves in the world.

The tour then takes you south through Swaziland and into the province of Kwazulu Natal, home to the once feared Zulu warriors. You will travel through the Greater St Lucia Wetlands Park before arriving in Durban, the holiday capital of South Africa.

From Durban you will head into the Southern Drakensberg Mountains and its spectacular scenery and spend a couple of days travelling through & experiencing its beauty. The tour will then travel through Port Elizabeth en-route to the splendour of the Garden Route before arriving in one of the cities of the world, Cape Town.

Day 1 | Monday
DAY OF ARRIVAL (±30km)

Guests enjoy the day at leisure or alternatively take an optional, guided afternoon tour of Johannesburg and Soweto highlights (own account). Return to the hotel late afternoon. Guests are met by the tour guide for a tour briefing at 6h30pm. Guests enjoy dinner (own account) either at the hotel or a nearby Sandton restaurant.

Day 2 | Tuesday
JOHANNESBURG to HAZYVIEW via PANORAMA ROUTE (±500km)

After breakfast, guests depart for the Panorama Route en route to Hazyview. Guests stop for lunch (own account) in Graskop, arriving in the late afternoon. Relax prior to a leisurely dinner (own account) at the hotel.

Day 3 | Wednesday
FULL DAY IN KRUGER NATIONAL PARK (±250km)

After an early breakfast, guests travel to the iconic Kruger National Park. They enjoy a guided closed vehicle game drive, enjoy lunch (own account) at one of the Park’s rest camps. An optional full day safari in an open safari vehicle is available (own account and excluding lunch). Guest exit the Kruger National Park and head back to the hotel to freshen up and enjoy pre-dinner drinks (own account) before dinner (own account).

Day 4 | Thursday
HAZYVIEW to MALELANE via KRUGER NATIONAL PARK (±200km)
Guests enjoy an early breakfast before spending a 2nd day in a guided closed vehicle game drive in the Kruger National Park. An optional full day safari in an open safari vehicle is available (own account and excluding lunch). Lunch (own account) at Kruger National Park, at one of the park’s rest camps. Exit the park at Malelane Gate. Guests arrive in the late afternoon at the lodge, situated on the border of the park. Enjoy pre-dinner drinks (own account) before dinner at the hotel.

Day 5 | Friday
MALELANE to HLUHLUWE via ESWATINI (±420km)

Guests depart the hotel after an early breakfast and travel to Hluhluwe via the Kingdom of Eswatini. Enjoy lunch (own account) en route. Guests re-enter South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal en route to Hluhluwe. Arrive early evening at the hotel in time for a Zulu cultural show and dinner (own account).

Day 6 | Saturday
HLUHLUWE to PORT EDWARD via ST LUCIA (±480km)

After breakfast, the tour travels to St Lucia, where guests can enjoy a boat cruise on the St Lucia Estuary (own account). The tour departs for Port Edward, with lunch en route (own account). Enjoy dinner out (own account) at one of the many resort’s restaurants.

PORT EDWARD to MTHATHA (±280km)

Guests enjoy the morning at leisure before departing for Mthatha, stopping for lunch en route (own account). The Mandela Route takes a scenic drive on the N2 highway to Mthatha. Once there, guests can follow in the footsteps of Nelson Mandela. Guests freshen up before enjoying dinner at the hotel (own account).

MTHATHA to PORT ALFRED (±365km)

Guests enjoy an early breakfast and depart from Mthatha to the marina town of Port Alfred via Qunu, where Nelson Mandela was laid to rest and is still recognised as his family home. PORT ALFRED to KNSYNA via EASTERN GARDEN ROUTE (±410km)

Day 10 | Wednesday
KNYSNA to OUDTSHOORN via CANGO CAVES (±180km)
After breakfast, guests depart for Oudtshoorn, allowing guests the opportunity to photograph the Knysna Lagoon and the Knysna Heads. Travelling inland and over the Outeniqua Pass, the tour arrives in Oudtshoorn for lunch (own account) at an ostrich farm, where a tractor tour (own account) introduces guests to the ostrich industry. DAY OF DEPARTURE – MORNING AT LEISURE in CAPE TOWN
Guests enjoy breakfast at the hotel before spending the last day of the tour at leisure. Guests can select an optional Table Mountain and City Tour (own account). Guests can enjoy the cable car ride up the mountain (weather permitting; ticket to be pre-purchased online and for own account). Other stops include the Malay Quarter, city centre, Company Gardens, the Castle of Good Hope (time permitting) and Diamond Works at the V&A Waterfront.

This tour gives you a great overview of South Africa as it takes in many of its major attractions. If you are looking for more game viewing and lodge activity an extension back into Kruger National Park or into Pilanesberg National Park for some concentrated game activity would be a good option. You may want to travel further north into Botswana, Zambia or Namibia to experience other regions of southern Africa. Or you may wish to relax on a beach in Mozambique before heading home.
