Sir Richard Branson’s South African private game reserve, Ulusaba meaning ‘place of little fear’ sits entirely within the Sabi Sand Reserve, surrounded by 13,500 hectares of open bush.

A family-friendly safari destination, Ulusaba was voted as the number 1 resort in Africa in the Condé Nast Traveler Reader’s Choice Awards in 2016 and was ranked as the third best resort in the world.

Kruger National Park is one of the world’s most famed protected areas, known for its size, history of conversation, diversity of wildlife and ease of access. It’s a place where the drama of life and death is played out on a daily basis.

South Africa’s first national park is a great place to view the Big 5 with healthy populations of lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, and buffalo. In fact Kruger has more species of large mammals than any other park in Africa as well as over 500 species of birds found, making it the ideal safari location.

Activities

There are two daily game drives at Ulusaba, one leaving in the early morning and one leaving in the late afternoon, both lasting approximately 3 hours. You will explore the 13,500 hectares of private reserve with your dedicated Ranger and Tracker who will tailor your game drive just for you. If you would like to see some of the smaller creatures in the area, arrange a safari walk. Leaving after breakfast, a safari walk is a great opportunity to see things usually missed on the game drive and to learn about the unique uses of the native flora.

If relaxing is more your style, visit Ulusaba Spa, play a round of tennis or take a dip in one of two heated pools on the property. Guests can also enjoy a star gazing evening as part of their stay at the onsite observatory in the Bush, rangers will teach all about the constellations you can see.

Guests can choose to get away from the lodge for the day by going on one of the day excursions, exploring the nearby Panorama Route. Alternatively you may wish to visit one of the local villages, where you can even volunteer your time giving back to the local community.
